In this project, we practiced using speedlights for portraits and combined them with some photoshop editing to create a spooky final result. First we took portraits of four classmates using speedlight setups around the classroom. Then we imported those portraits into Lightroom for some basic editing. Next class, we began the Photoshop work to transform those portraits into Day of the Dead skulls.
We began by practicing on a photo of Steve Jobs. We achieved the final result by placing an image of a skull over the portrait, and creating a layer mask. By completely removing the skull using the layer mask, we were able to paint back in pieces of the skull to create the illusion that he was decaying. Once we successfully completed the Photoshop work on Steve Jobs, we applied the same process to our own portraits. Here's my final result.
